Boise Front Trail Festival
HILL CLIMB ★ 5 MILE ★ 10 MILE
We spend two summer days on the mountain at Bogus Basin, starting with a Friday night Hill Climb and finishing with Saturday morning singletrack, a summit of Shafer Butte, and a celebration at the lodge.
WHY WE LOVE THIS WEEKEND
Two days on the mountain, and every type of athlete is welcome.
The Boise Front Trail Festival is Boise's only multi-day trail festival, and it has a way of bringing very different people to the same trailhead. On Friday evening, skiers, multi-sport athletes, and anyone who loves a steep climb take on the Hill Climb. On Saturday morning, the 5 Mile runners take on a short, tough mountain course while the 10 Mile crowd sets off for the highest point in Boise. You can run, hike, or ruck any of the three, and by late morning everyone ends up back at the JR Simplot Lodge trading stories about the climb.
This festival is where Boise Running Races got its start. It was the first event we ever hosted, it's still our flagship, and 2027 will be our sixth year bringing it to the mountain.

In 2026, the Hill Climb started at 5:30 PM on Friday, the 10 Mile at 8:00 AM on Saturday, and the 5 Mile at 9:00 AM on Saturday.

THE CAUSE
Race proceeds are donated to Ridge to Rivers.
The 10 Mile ends on top of Boise.
The 10 Mile climbs to the summit of Shafer Butte, the highest point in Boise, on singletrack through the Bogus Basin trail system. It's the one you'll be talking about all week.
Five miles you'll earn.
The new 5 Mile course is shorter than the 10 Mile, but it is a real mountain race with steep climbs and plenty of singletrack. Come ready to work, and know that hiking the hills is always welcome.
The finish line is the party.
At Bogus Basin, the day doesn't end when you cross the line. In 2026, finishers collected their medals, cheered in their friends, and stayed on the mountain to enjoy a beautiful view.
THE COURSES
Singletrack, big views, and a summit worth the climb.
In 2026, we moved the start to the JR Simplot Lodge, the main lodge at Bogus Basin, for the first time. That change gave us brand new courses with more singletrack on every distance and a better finish festival right outside the lodge. The Friday Hill Climb runs from the base of the ski area straight up the mountain, so it's short, steep, and over before you know it. On Saturday, the 5 Mile packs a lot of climbing into a short distance, and the 10 Mile keeps climbing until you're standing on Shafer Butte with the whole valley below you.

RACE WEEKEND
From a Friday night climb to a Saturday summit.
Here is what race weekend looked like in 2026, and we will confirm every 2027 time in race week emails. Pick up your packet early if you can, because the drive up the mountain gets busy and race day pickup closes early.
Race week packet pickup
We picked up packets at Fleet Feet Meridian on Wednesday from 12 PM to 6 PM, and at Fleet Feet Nampa on Thursday from 12 PM to 6 PM. We strongly encourage you to grab your packet before race day, because there will be traffic on the drive up the mountain and race day pickup closes early so we can start on time.

A limited race day pickup ran at the start and finish line, from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM before the Hill Climb, from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM for the 10 Mile, and from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM for the 5 Mile.
Parking at the lodge
You can park at the JR Simplot Lodge, 1731 N Bogus Basin Rd, Horseshoe Bend. Give yourself extra time for the drive, because the road up the mountain gets busy on race morning.

Collect your medal, find your friends, and stay to cheer in the runners still coming down the mountain. We get everyone off the course and onto the celebration as early as we can, and it's our favorite part of the weekend.

RIDGE TO RIVERS
Your race helps take care of the trails you run all year.
Race proceeds from the Boise Front Trail Festival are donated to Ridge to Rivers, the partnership that builds and maintains the Boise Foothills trail system. That partnership brings together the City of Boise, the BLM, Ada County Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, and Idaho Fish and Game, and every entry helps keep our foothills singletrack runnable for all of us.
If you'd like to go one step further, you can take the Ridge to Rivers Happy Trails Pledge and commit to responsible use of the Boise trail system.
AWARDS
There's prize money waiting at the top of the 10 Mile. In 2026, we gave out age group and overall awards for the 5 Mile and 10 Mile, and overall awards for the Hill Climb. The top three overall finishers in the 10 Mile took home cash prizes of $150, $100, and $50. The 2026 age groups were 18 and under, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 and over.
YOUTH TRAIL INITIATIVE
We want the next generation of trail runners on this mountain. The Youth Trail Initiative is a program in cooperation with the American Trail Running Association that is designed to get more 14 to 18 year olds into trail races. As part of the initiative, the Boise Front Trail Festival gives youth athletes ages 14 to 18 a 15% discount, and that discount continues in 2027. Request a youth discount.
VOLUNTEER
Spend a morning on the mountain without running a step.

ALSO AT BOGUS BASIN
If you love Bogus in the summer, run the Bogus Trail Series too. It brings Friday night trail races to Bogus Basin throughout the summer, and in 2026 it ran on June 26, July 10, and July 24. A points based Grand Prix crowns the top male and female runners, and every participant earned a custom hat sponsored by Fleet Feet Treasure Valley.

Yes. You can run or walk the 5 Mile and the 10 Mile, and plenty of people hike or ruck their way through the weekend. In 2026, both Saturday courses stayed open until 1:00 PM.

Every distance starts and finishes at the JR Simplot Lodge, the main lodge at Bogus Basin. Parking is at the lodge, at 1731 N Bogus Basin Rd, Horseshoe Bend.

Yes. You'll find bathrooms at the start and finish area inside the JR Simplot Lodge, and we also bring in portable restrooms.

We wish we could tell you today. Conditions on the mountain can be tough to predict, but the NOAA averages for Bogus Basin in early August are around 60 degrees for the low and just under 90 degrees for the high, which is one more reason we start early.
