A BOISE RUNNING RACES EVENT | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2027 | JULIA DAVIS PARK, BOISE
SueB 5K Walk/Run
Take the Reins. Enjoy the Freedom.
Every October, more than 300 of us walk and run along the Boise River in honor of Susan "SueB" Newby, and every entry supports the Women's and Children's Alliance.
WHY WE COME BACK
Seventeen Octobers of walking and running for SueB.
The SueB 5K turned 17 this year, and it still feels like a family reunion in Julia Davis Park. Some people come to chase a fast time on a flat course, and plenty of others walk the whole way with their sister, their coworkers, or the friend who talked them into it. Everyone ends up back in the park together, wearing purple and celebrating the people who keep each other safe. If you've been here before, you know why we come back, and if you haven't, we'd love for 2027 to be your first.

Every pace belongs at the SueB.
You'll see runners chasing a personal best right next to friends who walk the whole 5K and talk the entire time. The course is flat and chip timed, so it works for whatever kind of morning you want.
The whole park turns purple.
By the time the first finishers come home, Julia Davis Park is full of purple shirts and pink flags. Once you cross the line, the free community fair is right there waiting for you and your people.
Bring the people who matter to you.
The SueB was started by a sister and two friends, so it has always been a day for celebrating the relationships that hold us up. Sign up with your family, your friends, or your whole office, and walk it together.
THE COURSE
Five kilometers along the river, and home to the park.
You'll start in Julia Davis Park on the pathway between the Rose Garden and the Boise Art Museum, then head out onto the Boise River Greenbelt and travel east, staying on the north side of the river. There's a water stop at the halfway point near Kristin Armstrong Park, which is where you'll turn and follow the Greenbelt back.
Flat from start to finish
The course is friendly to strollers, first timers, and anyone who wants to walk it. You'll finish right where you started, with the fair waiting in the park. See the full course map.
This is the 2026 course, and the map stays linked. We'll share the 2027 map here as soon as the route is final.
RACE WEEK
From packet pickup to the community fair.
The SueB starts a few days early with packet pickup around the valley, and it ends with a fair in the park. Here is what race week looked like in 2026, and we'll confirm every 2027 time as soon as the date is set.
Packet pickup at Fleet Feet Meridian
In 2026, you could grab your packet on the Wednesday before the race from 12 PM to 7 PM at Fleet Feet Meridian.
Packet pickup at the WCA
On Thursday, the WCA hosted pickup from 9 AM to 3 PM at its office at 720 W Washington St in Boise.
Packet pickup at Fleet Feet Boise
On Friday, you could pick up from 12 PM to 7 PM at Fleet Feet Boise.
10:30 AM
The free community resource fair opens in Julia Davis Park, and anyone who couldn't make it to pickup can grab a packet or register on site until 11:30 AM sharp. Race day registration is limited, so we always recommend signing up early.
12:00 PM
Walkers and runners head out together onto the Greenbelt.
The finish and the fair
You'll finish back in the park where you started, and the fair is the best place to celebrate. Spend some time at the booths, because they're full of community resources that are worth knowing about, for you or for someone you love.
WHO WAS SUEB
This race carries SueB's name, and her story.
Susan Elaine Brubaker Newby, known to everyone as SueB, was a vivacious, intelligent woman who is missed dearly every day. She was born on February 9, 1955, and she died on April 4, 2008, during a mysterious horseback riding incident. After her death, her family and friends came to realize that SueB was likely in an abusive marriage. Her sister, Marj, and her friends Leslie and Teresa turned to the Women's and Children's Alliance as a way to honor her life and raise awareness about domestic violence. Their hope was "to help other successful, smart, beautiful women like SueB leave these relationships before it's too late."
Every SueB registration supports the WCA's Endowment Fund, which exists to provide funds in perpetuity for all of the WCA's programs, so the WCA can keep providing safety, healing, and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault for many years to come. When you sign up, you're showing up for a neighbor who needs it.
"Don't wait until your sister, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault, step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence."
Marj Sente, SueB's sister

VOLUNTEER
Be part of the SueB without running a step.
We put on this race together with the WCA, with the help of volunteers who believe in its work, and we would love to have you on the team. The WCA organizes every volunteer shift through its own sign up page, so that's the best place to find a spot that fits your morning.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2027 | JULIA DAVIS PARK
We can't wait to walk and run for SueB with you again.
We'll see you on Sunday, October 3, at noon. Until then, the best way to carry SueB's story forward is to learn about the WCA's work and to start thinking about who you'll bring with you next year. Take the Reins. Enjoy the Freedom.
